THE man charged with overseeing the $2 billion Buckland Park development believes it will cement the northern suburbs as the hub of Adelaide’s employment and residential growth.Newly appointed project director Tim Solan said developer Walker Corporation welcomed the State Government’s approval of the project, after a three year planning process.
Twice the size of Mawson Lakes, Buckland Park will be home to 33,000 people by 2036.
About 12,000 new homes will be built on 1340ha of land on Port Wakefield Rd, just west of Virginia.
Stage one of the development, expected to begin later this year, will include 600 new homes.
The development will include six schools, a district centre, improved public transport and 279ha of public open space.
The first Buckland Park residents are expected to move in in 2012.
